Thursday Night at Sheridan, and Sheridan in General

I know I usually do a Sunday OR a Monday post and this week I have both—please forgive the extra post. I sort of forgot what week it is and thought I was reading at Sheridan College NEXT week, and thus would have more time to remind people to come see me (and outstanding writer Michelle Winters) read some work, new and old, do a Q&A, wear some fun sweaters. I’m sure there will be chatter after, along with books for sale and signing, and there are rumours of holiday treats. I’m really looking forward to the event. Details: Thursday December 12, 6pm-8pm, Sheridan Hazel McCallion Campus, Creative Campus Gallery!

I just wanted to add that, if you weren’t aware, the tone of this event might be a little different than I originally imagined. The Sheridan administration has recently announced that it plans to shutter a number of programs at the college, including the wonderful Creative Writing and Publishing Program, which runs the wonderful Ampersand Review, which in turn runs the wonderful reading series. This is heartbreaking for those of us who really value the combination of creative and practical skills that the program brings to students, the zestful and vibrant creative community that has sprung up in the program, and the passionate and talent faculty working there. The party isn’t over yet, as there is a lot of strong advocacy going on—you can check out the Save CW&P Instagram for the latest news, where to direct letter writing, and more. I wrote a letter, Mark wrote a letter, I helped organize my work to write a letter, and I hope it does some good. But in the meantime, I’m hoping to just bring some good vibes and give some hugs.

If you can’t make it and would still like someone to like someone to read my book to you (or both), audiobooks.com is having one of their periodic sales and you can get the audiobook of These Days Are Numbered at 70% (so, for $7.50USD) until the end of the year. Kind of a nice deal if you were wanting to get it but thought it was pricy, or wondered if it was good but not enough to pay full price.

The Rose-coloured survey still exists and I remain ever-fascinated by your opinions. If you haven’t filled it out and feel remotely inclined, I would love that.

Hmm, that may be all the content I have for now. A short post for once. Surprise!
