This is another dialogue post because we are still recovering from StanFest and there’s a lot to say about what we did in the period we were apart. And we even have a three-way dialogue with a pal who also attended—wild times! All dialogues transcribed and shared with permission.

RR: I cleaned the gravity feeder.
MS: The showerhead? Yeah, that’s great.
RR: No, the gravity feeder. For the cats.
MS: Sorry, I do not know what that is.
RR (points at small inverted tub that fills cats’ dish via gravity as they eat the food already in the dish) That thing. It was gross. Have you ever looked in there?
MS: Oh that thing. I try not look in there. It’s gross. We need to clean it.
RR: I cleaned it.
MS: Did you?
RR: This conversation is going terribly.

Also also:
MS (getting ready to go out, examines ankle while doing up shoe): Mosquito bites from StanFest.
RR: Mosquitos bit you? Oh no!
MS: It’s ok, not very many. I was pretty good about putting on insect repellant.
RR: And yet not sunscreen (referring to an earlier conversation)
MS: I wore sunscreen. I wore some sunscreen.
RR: Ok.
MS: It ran into my eyes. I cannot wear that sunscreen (referring to expensive sunscreen he requested and that RR went out of her way to get for him in the exact amount he could take in a carryon) above my eyes because when it’s hot it melts. I was blind for about three and a half hours.
RR: Blind! This didn’t concern you?
MS: It was a concert, you mainly engage through your ears.
RR: But, medically? You didn’t think you should go to a hospital?
MS: Hospitals! They kill more people than they save!
RR: !!!
MS: Kidding, kidding. I love hospitals. No hospitals were available.
RR: !!! How did you
MS (speaking over her) No further questions at this time.
RR: go to the bathroom while you were blinded?
MS: Luckily, I did not have to go to the bathroom until my vision cleared.

And finally;

Pal: I gotta get a rice cooker.

RR: Don’t get a rice cooker. I hate ours. I want Mark to get rid of ours.

Pal: You have a rice cooker? Tell me about it. Tell me what to get.

RR: It’s in the way in the coat closet. We keep hats in it in the winter.

MS: It’s really handy. It comes with its own little plastic measuring cup.

RR: Yeah, that’s a selling point.

Pal: I have little plastic cups.

MS: It’s great. It cooks perfect rice.

Pal: Yeah! That rice cooker Brad brought camping last weekend, I could have eaten the rice all day. It was perfect.

MS: He plugged that in at the shed?

Pal: Toilets.

RR: Toilet rice.

MS: I don’t think that was a very good rice cooker. And then we left it out in the rain.

RR: What?

Pal: That was good rice. Tell me what kind of rice cooker to buy.

RR: You can make rice in an instant pot.

Pal: I don’t have an instant pot.

RR: Fine, maybe we can mail you our rice cooker.

Pal: Not worth the postage.

RR: (sigh) We’ll look at the rice cooker when we get home tell you what it is.

Pal: Thanks!

RR (to MS) But I want you to keep ours on your side of the bed from now on.

MS: Fine.
